Crafty Creations in Caton

Meet Katie Gloede from Tiebreaker Bow Ties...
Hi! I'm Katie and I'm originally from Morganville, New Jersey. The arts have always been a big part of my life; I grew up taking painting classes and music lessons and eventually completed a bachelors in Music Education and a masters in Musicology.
After graduate school I started working in Arts Administration, but the desk job lacked the creative freedom I enjoyed. I had grown up watching my mom sew my clothes, Halloween costumes, show choir outfits, and everything in between, and I decided it was time to learn. As I honed my skills, I realized that I love crafting unique pieces that can reflect the wearer's personal style and add a special touch to his or her day.
I opened Tiebreaker Bow Ties in March of 2015 and this will be my first Avant-Garde show! My shop combines vintage design and unique textiles with a focus on upholding eco-friendly fashion practices.
I do my best to work with only responsibly sourced materials. I source remnant and vintage textiles from local fabric stores, rummage through boxes at yard sales and antique fairs, and explore vintage apparel in specialty shops. I love the reclamation process and the feeling of bringing new life to otherwise forgotten vintage pieces.

Meet Tonya Bonner of Rainbow Chic Accessories...
Hi, I'm Tonya of Rainbow Chic Accessories. I am from Cleveland, Ohio, and this is my first Avant-Garde show! I have been knitting and crocheting off and on since I was a teenager. I began crafting jewelry back in 2001, but due to illness, I stopped for several years and just recently picked it back up. As a breast cancer and brain tumor survivor, I find that crafting and art is very therapeutic.
I have always been interested in crafts. My grandmother knitted a vest for me when I was a teenager. When I asked her to knit me another one, she said "knit it yourself." The words my grandmother said many years ago came into my mind, "make it yourself." Hence, my journey into crafting jewelry began.
I see inspiration in everything. I see it in paintings, patterns, shapes, architecture, nature, and current and vintage trends. I am constantly learning, and if I see something that inspires me, I try to put my own spin on it. I have to be creative and use my own ideas from the materials I have on hand.
I feel that the name "Rainbow Chic" gives me permission to not have to conform to any one color or type of jewelry. Rainbows encompass all beauty. Once we weather life's storms we can bring about happiness with color, style, and beauty.

Meet Erin from Erin's Unique Designs...
Hi! I'm Erin and I was born and raised in the suburbs of Cleveland, Ohio. I currently live in Brunswick with my wonderful fiancee, Frank, my two teenage kids, two dogs, and three chickens! This will be my first Avant-Garde show!
I got into crafting a few years ago after my fiancee and I went hiking in the woods. We came across some grape vine trees and I thought, "hmmm, I could make a wreath with this!" That year for Christmas, I made wreaths as gifts!
The gifts were a huge hit and, from there, my crafting creativity started overflowing! I started my company because I know how heartfelt homemade gifts can be. I love doing custom orders and encourage it whenever possible.
So many things inspire me to create. I go into a craft store and instantly, all of these new ideas come rushing in. I also incorporate my daughter's insight because she is very artistic and enjoys helping me!

Meet Katie Kelley from Bristles N Pine...
My name is Katie and I have two amazing boys and a perfect husband. They are my motivation for starting Bristles N Pine. When I lost my job I had to find another way to bring in income so that I could continue to stay at home with my kids. I had been doing woodwork and reclaimed signs as a hobby, but never considered it as additional income. My husband encouraged me to expand it.
While it has been a lot of trial and error, it has been a life changing experience. I love what I'm doing. It is truly an enjoyable experience for me and quite an outlet for my creativity while I raise my boys. Us moms need an outlet sometimes that we can call our own!
Please know that I pride myself on making a quality piece that will last. I love looking at each piece of reclaimed wood to decide how its uniqueness would be best used. I love experimenting with different paint techniques and staining application to achieve the perfect look for the customer.
Seeing the smile upon delivery of my custom pieces is really incomparable with any other experience. As much as people love customizing pieces, creating some of my original work is the most rewarding part for me personally. When the original pieces sell, it is really the affirmation I need that I'm doing something right!

Meet Victoria Rose from Fire Rose Studios...
Hi! My name is Victoria Rose and I have been making jewelry since 2005. This will be my first Avant-Garde show!
I started my jewelry-making journey with beaded necklaces, and then I moved into wire work and, about two years ago, discovered steampunk jewelry.
I started making 20s/40s era type hats just a few months ago. I have always been creative, from visual arts to performing arts. I let my work speak to me.
In five years, I hope to be able to make a full-time living from my art.
